Yellow Submarine (1968)
The singing group, The Beatles, at the height of their popularity, made this cartoon of a land that is taken over by the Blue Meanies. They are recruited by an escapee to come and bring joy (and music) back to the land. The techniques are quite psychedelic in the cartoons and much care was taken to have the walks and mannerisms of the individual Beatles cartoons match the originals.

Church Abuse In The Catholic Church
Posted On 26 Nov 2007 at at 01:05 by somewhereWatch two documentaries revealing the truth about child abuse in the Catholic Church.
Sex Crimes And The Vatican
A BBC documentary of the investigation into allegations that a secret church directive, (Download Here)issued by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he became Pope Benedict XVI, is being used to silence the victims of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests. Colm O'Gorman, who was raped as a 14-year-old boy by his local parish priest in Ireland, travels to America, Brazil and the Vatican City to uncover more.
Deliver Us From Evil
A Academy Award-nominated documentary film directed by Amy Berg which tells the true story of the pedophile Catholic priest Oliver O'Grady, who sexually abused potentially hundreds of children between the late 1970s and early 1990s. The film won the Best Documentary Award at the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival. The title refers to a line in the Lord's Prayer, or the "Our Father."
Sex Crimes And The Vatican
A secret document which sets out a procedure for dealing with child sex abuse scandals within the Catholic Church is examined by Panorama.
Crimen Sollicitationis was enforced for 20 years by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he became the Pope.It instructs bishops on how to deal with allegations of child abuse against priests and has been seen by few outsiders.Critics say the document has been used to evade prosecution for sex crimes.
Crimen Sollicitationis was written in 1962 in Latin and given to Catholic bishops worldwide who are ordered to keep it locked away in the church safe.It instructs them how to deal with priests who solicit sex from the confessional. It also deals with "any obscene external act ... with youths of either sex."
It imposes an oath of secrecy on the child victim, the priest dealing with the allegation and any witnesses.Breaking that oath means excommunication from the Catholic Church.
Reporting for Panorama, Colm O'Gorman finds seven priests with child abuse allegations made against them living in and around the Vatican City. One of the priests, Father Joseph Henn, has been indicted on 13 molestation charges brought by a grand jury in the United States.
During filming for Sex Crimes and the Vatican, Colm finds Father Henn is fighting extradition orders from inside the headquarters of this religious order in the Vatican. The Vatican has not compelled him to return to America to face the charges against him.
After filming, Father Henn lost his fight against extradition but fled the headquarters and is believed to be hiding in Italy while there is an international warrant for his arrest.
Colm O'Gorman was raped by a Catholic priest in the diocese of Ferns in County Wexford in Ireland when he was 14 years old.Father Fortune was charged with 66 counts of sexual, indecent assault and another serious sexual offence relating to eight boys but he committed suicide on the eve of his trial.
Colm started an investigation with the BBC in March 2002 which led to the resignation of Dr Brendan Comiskey, the bishop leading the Ferns Diocese.Colm then pushed for a government inquiry which led to the Ferns Report. It was published in October 2005 and found: "A culture of secrecy and fear of scandal that led bishops to place the interests of the Catholic Church ahead of the safety of children."
The Catholic Church has 50 million children in its worldwide congregation and no universal child protection policy although in the UK there is the Catholic Office for the Protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults.
In some countries this means that the Crimen Sollicitationis is the only policy followed.
The Vatican has refused repeated requests from Panorama to respond to any of the cases shown in the film.Taken From The BBC Website
Deliver Us From Evil
Deliver Us from Evil (2006) is an Academy Award-nominated documentary film directed by Amy Berg which tells the true story of the pedophile Catholic priest Oliver O'Grady, who sexually abused potentially hundreds of children between the late 1970s and early 1990s. The film won the Best Documentary Award at the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival. The title refers to a line in the Lord's Prayer, or the "Our Father."
The film chronicles O'Grady's years as a priest in Northern California, where he committed his crimes. After being convicted and serving seven years in prison, O'Grady was deported to Ireland, where Amy Berg interviewed him in 2005. O'Grady speaks candidly about his crimes. Additionally, the film presents trial documents, videotaped depositions, and interviews with activists, theologians, psychologists and lawyers which suggest that not only were Church officials aware of O'Grady's crimes, they actively took steps to conceal them.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail.
The movie starts out with Arthur, King of the Britons, looking for knights to sit with him at Camelot. He finds many knights including Sir Galahad the pure, Sir Lancelot the brave, the quiet Sir Bedevere, and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir Lancelot. They do not travel on horses, but pretend they do and have their servants bang coconuts to make the sound of horse's hooves. Through satire of certain events in history (witch trials, the black plague) they find Camelot, but after literally a quick song and dance they decide that they do not want to go there. While walking away, God (who seems to be grumpy) come to them from a cloud and tells them to find the Holy Grail. They agree and begin their search. While they search for the Grail, scenes of the knight's tales appear and why they have the name they have. Throughout their search they meet interesting people and knights along the way. Most of the characters die; some through a killer rabbit (which they defeat with the holy hand grenade), others from not answering a question right from the bridge of Death, or die some other ridiculous way. In the end, King Arthur and Sir Bedevere are left and find the Castle Arrrghhh where the Holy Grail is. They are met by some French soldiers who taunted them earlier in the film, so they were not able to get into the castle.

Too Much Drugs Or Not Enough?
Posted On at at 20:10 by somewhereAfter over a decade of rising drug use, Europe may now be entering a more stable phase, says the EU drugs agency, the EMCDDA. Not only are there signs that heroin use and drug injecting have become generally less common, but new data suggest that levels of cannabis use may now be stabilising after a sustained period of growth. Nevertheless, positive messages are marred by high levels of drug-related deaths and rising cocaine use. These comments come today as the agency launches its 2007 Annual report on the state of the drugs problem in Europe in Brussels.... Download (PDF)

Jellyfish Invade Scotland
Posted On at at 19:26 by somewhere
A call has gone out to beachcombers, fish farmers, boatmen and anyone else on Scotland's coast to prepare for the invasion of the jellyfish.
Earlier this week it was revealed the invaders had choked Northern Ireland's only fish farm, killing 100,000 fish and causing £1 million of damage Today it was reported around 140,000 young salmon have been killed north of Belfast and around 15 miles from a the first incident. Now huge numbers of the stinging baby jellyfish are swarming in Scottish waters and yesterday the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) launched a recruitment drive for volunteer sentries on our beaches to maintain a lookout...... They are to report amy sighting of these unseasonal blooms as part of a national surveillance operation, the MCS Jellyfish Survey.
This month MCS has already received reports of millions of baby mauve stinger and compass jellyfish occurring off Skye, the Isle of Eigg, as well as off Ullapool and Durness in Sutherland.
"It is quite unusual for this number of juvenile jellyfish to be occurring in UK waters at this time of year," said Anne Saunders, MCS Scottish Projects Officer.
"But these blooms are phenomenal and consist of millions of individuals, being washed here by strong Atlantic currents."
While compass jellyfish are common throughout UK waters during the summer, mauve stingers are relatively uncommon and are usually only occasionally recorded in the southwest. Both can sting.
In recent years the mauve stinger has bloomed in vast numbers in the Mediterranean, presenting a significant bathing hazard to holidaymakers.
The latest reports of the jellyfish invasion came from Durness in the north west of Sutherland last week, when a Highland Council Ranger reported thousands of compass jellyfish (Chrysaora hysoscella) washing ashore on Balnakeil Beach after gale force winds.
Before that, MCS received reports of huge blooms of baby mauve stingers (Pelagia noctiluca) off Skye in early November, followed by reports of mass compass jellyfish strandings on the Isle of Eigg.
Last week a fisherman reported more huge blooms of small mauve stingers in Ullapool harbour and around the nearby Summer Isles.
Similarly large swarms of juvenile mauve stinger jellyfish have been recorded off the coasts of Ireland and Northern Ireland since the end of October, and eventually they mounted their attack on the Antrim coast fish farm.
MCS is asking Scottish fish farmers in particular to be vigilant.
Ms Saunders said: "We are urging fish farmers to report any jellyfish blooms they encounter to MCS, through our Fish Farmers Wildlife Reporting Scheme.
"Jellyfish swarms can impact on fish and shellfish farms, and while the conditions causing these current events remain unclear, such swarms may become more prevalent in Scottish waters as a result of climate change.
"Therefore, the MCS Jellyfish Survey could prove to be a useful tool in monitoring this situation."
Over 4,500 jellyfish encounters have been reported since the MCS Jellyfish Survey was launched in 2003. The survey data will be fully analysednext year in collaboration with the University of Exeter's Centre for Ecology & Conservation, but initial analysis of these public reports is already showing interesting differences in the distribution of the six larger jellyfish species around Britain.
MCS recommends that survey participants do not touch any jellyfish they encounter as some species can inflict a painful sting.
When Clowns Attack

In solidarity with the people of Rossport and Nigeria, the Shell petrol station on Dalry Road, Edinburgh was blockaded for 2 hours on Saturday by 20 people including members of the Clown Army. The Comiston Shell Petrol Station was subjected to a nighttime redecoration....'From Oganiland to Rossport' was the message of anti-Shell protesters blockading Shell Petrol Station in Dalry Road, Edinburgh, this morning (Saturday 10 November).
The group of around twenty protesters shut off the petrol station by blocking entrances and hoisting signs. The protesters aimed to educate and entertain those prevented from accessing the station, bringing with them an array of musical instruments and games as well as information about Shell.
An activist explained. 'This action is not only a protest against Shell's atrocious environmental record in the Niger Delta and Rossport, County Mayo, but also a gesture of solidarity with those who have already suffered so much at the hands of Shell. Today marks the twelfth anniversary of the death of Ken Saro-Wiwa who was executed by the Nigerian government for his attempts to protect the lands of his people, the Ogani community. In addition this time last year the Irish Garda police baton charged a peaceful blockade of the Shell refinery in Rossport, injuring unarmed members of the Rossport community who were peacefully trying to protect their homes from commercial exploitation. We stand in support of these brave people and aim to draw attention to the worldwide issue of Shell's violation of both human rights and the health of our planet in pursuit of profit'
Also attending the blockade was a gaggle of clowns from the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, who brought a sense of comic festivity to the otherwise somber anniversary.
Sergeant Toast explained: 'We clowns represent the sane in an insane world, where the profit of multinational companies comes before the rights and lives of communities. Even the likes of Shell and their actions in the world cannot quell our sense of the joyousness and beauty of life and our determination to replace these commercial values with out own-those of playfulness, freedom and love. Join the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army and help us protect our world and freedoms!
The Rossport community of County Mayo, Ireland, have since 2000 waged an ongoing resistance to the attempts of Shell to turn their coast-land into the site of a toxic refinery with a high pressure gas pipeline which will cut through the community, in same cases running just 70metres from peoples homes. The 'Rossport 5'-farmers who refused to obey a compulsory purchase order to seize their land-were imprisoned in 2005, and their efforts are supported by the whole community, worthy of nation wide and international support for the struggle they are bravely maintaining. Nigeria-On November 10th 1995 Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight Ogoni colleagues were executed by the Nigerian state for campaigning against the devastation of the Niger Delta by oil companies, especially Shell and Chevron. (www.remembersarowiwa.com)
In an unrelated incident the Shell petrol station at Comiston was targeted in a night time attack. Messages were spray painted, locks were glued and the petrol pump dials rendered unreadable.

The Most Dangerous Drug In The World?
Posted On at at 21:16 by somewhere
Scopolamine is a colorless, tasteless, odorless drug. It is also known as hyoscine and is classified as a tropane alkaloid. The drug can be obtained from plants in the Solanacea (nightshade) family. Most scopolamine comes from jimsome weed, or as in Columbia, borrachero trees. The plants it can be derived from are many, and abundantly available. This makes its use widespread, and exceedingly dangerous. It is, surprisingly, one of the most feared substances in what is arguably the drug capital of the world, Columbia.

This is the shocking but extremely informative video documentary Vaccination - The Hidden Truth where fifteen people, including Dr Viera Scheibner (a PhD researcher), five medical doctors, other researchers, reveal what is really going on in relation to illness and vaccines. Ironically, the important facts come from the orthodox medicine?s own peer-reviewed research.
With so much government and medical promotion of vaccination for prevention of disease, the video is clearly devoted to presenting the other side of the issue that parents and others are not being told. The result is a damning account of the ineffectiveness of vaccines and their often harmful effects. It declares that parents are not being told the truth by the media, the Health Department and the medical establishment, with a medical doctor, Dr. Mark Donohoe, confessing that:
"It is a problem for me that I am part of a profession that is systematically lying to people?".
Find out how vaccines are proven to have harmful effects to your health and why do we still have to be vaccinated although there is no real need for it. Although many people simply refuse to believe this, the impeccable documentation presented in this amazing video has changed the minds of many who saw it. (90MINS)

Posted On at at 09:56 by somewhere
Tibet: A Buddhist Trilogy takes you on an intimate journey deep into the heart of an ancient Buddhist world. Four years in the making and hailed as a cinematic masterpiece in 1979, writer/director Graham Coleman's three-part feature has been unseen for over 20 years. Now, the film has been reworked into a single presentation, complete with digital restoration of the original material and new commentary. Part 1 is an intimate portrait of the Dalai Lama as a spiritual and temporal leader. Part 2 journeys deep into the mystical inner world of monastic life and presents an authentic revelation of tantric Buddhism, with commentaries by the great 20th century master Dudjom Rinpoche. Part 3, photographed in the awesome landscapes of Ladakh, is a meditation on impermanence and the depiction of the monastery's moving ritual response to a death in the community

The Ghost In Your Genes
Posted On at at 00:40 by somewhere
Scientists have long puzzled over the different fates of identical twins: both have the same genes, yet only one may develop a serious disease like cancer or autism. What's going on? Does something else besides genes determine who we are?
The "something else" turns out to be a network of chemical switches that sit on our DNA, turning genes off and on.
The program looks at the controversial cutting edge of this burgeoning new field. At the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, researchers are investigating epigenetic means to treat a deadly form of leukemia. In Washington State, a researcher finds that a toxin given to rats still affects their offspring four generations later, without producing any changes in their genes. And in Sweden, a study of historical records seems to show that the lifespan of grandchildren is affected by their grandparents' access to food. Might these effects be epigenetic? Might our experiences, by changing our epigenomes, literally change the fate of our offspring ... and their offspring ... and theirs in turn?
